Woodwell and Meadow Barn replaced a dilapidated modern steel barn with two traditional Rutland farmstead homes.
The L-shaped structures provide a courtyard feel and feature single and two-storey designs, ground-to-eaves glass openings and oak framing reminiscent of traditional threshing barns.
The project combines traditional farmstead aesthetics with modern elements such as oak-framed car barns. Local materials, including stone from a nearby quarry, and recycled materials from the original barn were used.
The project features high-end finishes, including bespoke oak staircases, galleried landings, vaulted ceilings, and luxury kitchens and bathrooms.
The cooling system uses convector radiators driven by smartphone- controlled air source heat pumps. The site has a rural location with 360-degree countryside views.
Integration into the surrounding landscape was key, achieved by sympathetically mirroring a traditional Rutland farmstead style of construction using brick and stone and including large openings to replicate a threshing barn style with arrow slit windows.
