The Villers is an affordable residential scheme of 78 homes in the village of Whetstone which features 23 different house types.
The living needs of various demographics were catered for by including one-bedroom wheelchair accessible flats, two-bedroom dementia-friendly bungalows and two- to four-bedroom family houses and bungalows.
Thirty nine homes were built for shared ownership, 27 for social rent and 12 for supported living purposes. The shared ownership homes were incredibly popular, with the ages of new residents ranging from 23 to 73 years old.
The project was delivered by emh group as part of its strategic partnership agreement with Homes England, and in partnership with Blaby District Council and delivery partner Lovell Partnerships.
The former industrial brownfield site was transformed into high quality homes in an area with high demand for housing. When purchased in June 2020 the site contained only crumbling warehouses, vandalised workshops and impenetrable areas of overgrown vegetation.
The Villers has been designed to break the mould of traditional new build sites, with homes that echo the style and character of the area’s heritage. Environmental elements were also a top project priority, with a designated wildlife corridor and wild planting to encourage bees and other wildlife.
