The Tap and Run country pub and restaurant, owned by former England cricketers Harry Gurney and Stuart Broad, was almost completely destroyed by fire in June 2022.
A £1.3m rebuild project saw the Upper Broughton pub rise from the ashes and reopen just one year after being wiped out by the fire.
Multi-disciplinary consultancy Gateley Smithers Purslow project managed the pub’s reconstruction from 24 hours after the blaze to the start of its second innings in June 2023.
The fire almost completely destroyed the award-winning gastropub. The whole of the first and second floors were structurally damaged, and the roof was destroyed.
Some sections of the ground floor remained intact but received extensive smoke and water damage.
As a result, the building needed to be completely stripped back to brick including all services, fixtures and fittings.
Additional works produced a new and improved layout. Previously redundant first-floor space became staff accommodation and the new ground floor layout increased the number of the restaurant’s covers.
