Sustainable Development of the Year Award 2013 Finalist

Built by Rugby contractor Stepnell and developer MRP, the £5.26m Hinckley Hub on the town’s Rugby Road achieved an BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating for its energy use and environmental impact.

The project, including the new Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council HQ, regenerated a former industrial site which had become derelict and vandalised. Substantial quantities of contaminated material were removed from the site and disposed of, including asbestos, fuel tanks and dyes.

Further Information

The Hinckley Hub development retained and incorporated two substantial factory buildings.

Air source heat pumps and a 35 KWh photovoltaic array aid the Hub’s energy performance. The building is largely naturally ventilated and air-conditioning is utilised for less than 10 per cent of the lettable area.

Hinckley Hub achieved a 29 per cent improvement in its CO2 emission rate versus its building regulations target.

The development is located close to Hinckley town centre and two food stores with access to all amenities on foot. The development is served by local bus services and is 300 metres from Hinckley train station.

Cycling is heavily promoted with 48 onsite covered cycle shelters and full showers and lockers.
