ProCon Awards - Variety of venues compete for building award
Places to work, learn and play are the finalists in the Small Non-Residential Scheme of the Year in the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.
A college, offices and a pub are in the running in this category, which is one of six in this year’s 21st ProCon Leicestershire Awards.
The Small Non-Residential Scheme of the Year finalists are:
Leicester College Engineering Block, Leicester, submitted by Stepnell, Moss Architecture Interiors, MDA Consulting and Leicester College
A landmark building was transformed to create a state-of-the-art learning facility for the delivery of T-Level engineering qualifications at Leicester College’s Abbey Park Campus.
The project substantially remodelled and refurbished the existing building to provide a flexible engineering teaching centre, accommodating highly specialised equipment with improved acoustics, health and safety conditions, comfort conditions and sustainability to improve the learner experience.
The project included part-removal of the ground floor workshop wall and replacement with a glazed curtain wall, modernising the main entrance and approach and improving thermal performance and connectivity with the wider College.
Tap and Run, Upper Broughton, submitted by Gateley Smithers Purslow
The Tap and Run country pub and restaurant, owned by former England cricketers Harry Gurney and Stuart Broad, was almost completely destroyed by fire in June 2022.
A £1.3m rebuild project saw the Upper Broughton pub rise from the ashes and reopen just one year after being wiped out by the fire.
Multi-disciplinary consultancy Gateley Smithers Purslow project managed the pub’s reconstruction from 24 hours after the blaze to the start of its second innings in June 2023.
Tokio Marine HCC Staff Courtyard, Rearsby, submitted by Goodrich Cutler Associates
A redundant courtyard linking three separate office spaces has been reimagined as a flexible working and meeting space within a café type environment.
The existing office spaces leading from the courtyard have also been improved. The introduction of additional daylight and the simplification of existing internal layouts provided a number of linked, open plan spaces offering a modern working environment
The glazed atrium has replaced a blank façade, and life and activity within the building can be seen from the outside spaces.
