ProCon launches new bursaries to support interns
ProCon Leicestershire member companies can bid for the new Pam Allardice Internship Bursaries to help fund summer work placements for university students as they head into their final year of their degrees.
The new bursaries are from the fund set up in 2021 to celebrate the contribution of the property and construction network’s co-founder and chair of 20 years Pam Allardice, who died in 2020.
Three awards will be made each year, each allocated £750 to pay the successful firm’s student and with the student also gifted an individual membership of ProCon Leicestershire for two years, a prize worth £300.
Applications to welcome an intern in summer 2025 are invited from member companies by this year’s deadline of September 25. The winning companies, who must find their own interns, will be announced by the end of 2024.
The internships must be for at least six weeks and each student must be studying towards a degree in a subject relevant to the work of ProCon’s core property and construction sectors.
ProCon chair Umesh Desai said: “For a student soon to graduate, getting their foot in the door and gaining experience in the form of an internship can prove extremely beneficial. As well as strengthening their CV, they can improve their industry knowledge, grow in confidence and gain important contacts.
“For the organisation offering the placement it can give you the opportunity to assess the student with a view to longer term recruitment, but also provide the additional support often needed in a busy company.
“Pam Allardice was an enthusiastic backer of the new talent which enters our sector and I know she would have loved these bursaries and the help they will give to students and members alike.”
