ProCon Awards - Three listed homes contest best building award

Published 06th September 2024 by ProCon Leicestershire

Three Grade II listed homes are the finalists in the Small Residential Scheme of the Year in the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.

Two conversions and an extension are in the running in this category, which is sponsored by Lovell Partnerships and is one of six in this year’s 21st ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

The Small Residential Scheme of the Year finalists are:

The Coach House, Hallaton, submitted by Corporate Architecture
A large two storey Grade II Listed stable block in Hallaton has been converted into an impressive four-bedroom dwelling for family living.
The original large red brick building, dating to 1842, was formerly used as stables and housing for the coaches owned by the residents of Hallaton Grange.
The building had many existing features that required only enhancement or repair. New additions, such as mezzanine floors, were thoughtfully introduced to maximise space without compromising on the building’s overall aesthetic.

The Gatehouse, Market Bosworth, submitted by Hayward Architects
The Gatehouse project saw the creation of a modern extension to a Grade II listed house at the entrance to the historic town of Market Bosworth.
The extension spans approximately 100 sqm and includes a contemporary living, dining and kitchen space, blending the historic charm of the original structure with modern design elements.
The project carefully preserved the character of the Grade II listed building while incorporating state-of-the-art features and materials.

Lime Barns, Breedon on the Hill, submitted by David Granger Architectural Design
Grade II Listed timber framed barns at the former Limes Farm have been converted into a dream home by a self-builder couple.
The redundant barns had become surrounded by other residential properties in the village. Part of the challenge was to achieve the best outcome for a heritage asset by retaining as much of the historic fabric as possible.
Part of a barn directly abuts the footpath on the main road running through the village. This part is a good example of a historic timber framed barn so retaining this ensured the historic fabric was maintained for future generations.

Beth Bundonis, regional managing director for the East Midlands at the award sponsor Lovell Partnerships, said: “We’re proud to sponsor the Small and Medium Residential categories at this year’s ProCon awards.
“Both categories showcase examples of important work taking place in the creation of quality, much-needed housing in the Leicestershire and Rutland area – a mission we share with our work to unlock homes across the wider East Midlands.”

The 2024 ProCon Awards are backed by two corporate sponsors: Salus and Unique Window Systems. The Leicester Mercury’s Business Live is the media partner.

The other five awards are:
• Rising Star of the Year, sponsored by Keepmoat Homes
• Medium Residential Scheme of the Year, sponsored by Lovell Partnerships
• Large Residential Scheme of the Year, sponsored by MORRO Partnerships
• Small Non-residential Scheme of the Year
• Medium to Large Non-residential Scheme of the Year, sponsored by Procure Partnerships Framework and Compliance Chain

All the contenders will be in the spotlight at a Finalist Showcase at Hotel Voco (previously Hotel/Brooklyn) in Leicester from 6pm on Wednesday October 2.
