ProCon Awards - Major housing projects up for building award

Published 15th October 2024 by ProCon Leicestershire

Three new housing developments totalling more than 230 new homes are the finalists in the Large Residential Scheme of the Year in the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.

The developments in Leicester, Loughborough and Whetstone are in the running in this category, which is sponsored by MORRO Partnerships and is one of six in this year’s 21st ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

The Large Residential Scheme of the Year finalists are:

The Saxons, Leicester, submitted by MDA Consulting
The Saxons development transformed an old HMRC office in Leicester city centre into luxury accommodation for professionals.
It features 100 one- and two-bedroom apartments with shared amenities including a concierge, workspaces, gym, yoga studio, outdoor social area, secure bike storage and electric vehicle charging points.
The transformation of the existing building required careful engineering and design. Using new materials allowed for seamless integration with the existing structure while elevating the once dull office block into a luxurious apartment building.

The Villers, Whetstone, submitted by emhLovell Partnerships
The Villers is an affordable residential scheme of 78 homes in the village of Whetstone which features 23 different house types.
The living needs of various demographics were catered for by including one-bedroom wheelchair accessible flats, two-bedroom dementia-friendly bungalows and two- to four-bedroom family houses and bungalows.
Thirty nine homes were built for shared ownership, 27 for social rent and 12 for supported living purposes. The shared ownership homes were incredibly popular, with the ages of new residents ranging from 23 to 73 years old.

The Wharf, Loughborough, submitted by HSSP and Solus Homes
The Wharf is a new build of 55 luxury one- and two-bedroom apartments which is the phase three completion of Loughborough’s Waterside Village.
It joins its historic sister building The Mill, which dates from 1889, and a modern sister, The Gate, at the gateway site near the town’s railway station.
The Wharf was designed to harmonise with and take inspiration from The Mill, whilst having its own modern identity.

Chris Timmins, Managing Director at award sponsor MORRO Partnerships, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Large Residential Scheme, a recognition of the exceptional work and creativity that drives our industry forward.
“This award reflects the collaborative spirit and dedication of so many talented professionals, and we are proud to be part of a community that continually pushes the boundaries of excellence.
“Our thanks go to ProCon for their ongoing efforts in bringing the industry together and shining a light on these remarkable achievements.”
