ProCon Awards - Leicester projects up for new building award

Published 29th October 2024 by ProCon Leicestershire

A trio of projects in Leicester are the finalists in the Medium to Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year in the 2024 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.

Research, healthcare and leisure are the themes of those in this category, which is sponsored by Procure Partnerships Framework and Compliance Chain and is one of six in this year’s 21st ProCon Leicestershire Awards.

The Medium to Large Non-Residential Scheme of the Year finalists are:

Dock 3-5, Space City, Leicester, submitted by Brackley Property Developments and Leicester City Council
Dock 3, 4 and 5 were built on the Space City campus which is designed to be a hub for technology and knowledge-based industries.
Dock 3 and 4 provide office space whilst Dock 5 is for light industrial uses. The new offices will provide space for circa 50 businesses, with the light industrial units providing workspace across a terrace of nine buildings.
Space City’s latest additions are part of Leicester City Council’s successful securing of funding from the Government’s Levelling Up initiatives.

New Modular Ward, Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, submitted by Actiform
A new modular ward was created at Glenfield Hospital to help meet the University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust’s requirement for extra capacity.
An off-site, light gauge steel frame solution was used, enabling the modules to be constructed under factory controlled conditions and craned into location with minimal disruption.
The aim was a design that was functional and cost effective yet considered aesthetics, to sit harmoniously within the surrounding estate at Glenfield. It is purely electric and has solar panels and heat pumps.

Phoenix Cinema and Art Centre expansion, Leicester, submitted by Phoenix Leicester Arts Centre
The expansion and refurbishment of Leicestershire’s independent cinema and art centre has enabled the growth of Phoenix’s cultural, social and economic impact.
The project has also marked a step-change in financial resilience, with attendances now 36 per cent above 2022 levels.
The expansion significantly redeveloped existing internal spaces and a large extension created an additional 1,114 sqm of internal space and an external roof-top terrace of 435 sqm.

Tom Woolley, Key Account Manager at award sponsor Procure Partnerships Framework, said: “Procure Partnerships Framework is immensely proud to sponsor this award.
“The shortlist of projects showcases the extraordinary impact of the built environment sector across Leicestershire, and we are delighted to celebrate the innovation, dedication and outstanding achievements of these projects.”

The 2024 ProCon Awards are backed by two corporate sponsors: Salus and Unique Window Systems. The Leicester Mercury’s Business Live is the media partner.

The other five awards are:
